Perhaps you will remember my comparing his election to electing the mayors of Detroit and and Newark. I said that when a white electorate is ready to hand over the political reigns to a black politician, the place has gone done the tubes, and it rarely recovers anytime soon -- not because the politician is incompetent, but because there are major credit and demographic issues that will prevent a rebound anytime soon.
